A Few Highlights of the 2018 OCFSC Pheasant Program
Once again, the 2018 OCFSC Pheasant Program produced a regular fall release of older, hardy pheasants.
Overall production was down slightly (approximately 72 percent success) in part due to an early season predator hit (approximately 10 percent).
The Independent Fur Harvesters put in a great effort but were unsuccessful in catching the culprit. However, there were no further raids on the birds.
The Mongolian-Chinese pheasants continue to do well on the corn, sunflower and sorghum.
The Pheasant Program feed remains the largest ongoing costs. Recently prices leveled somewhat. Accordingly the requested donation for 2019 will remain at $7.00 per bird.
Orders should be sent to Ed Pugliese by March 1st.
To ensure the number of birds requested, a minimum of 50% of the total donation required will be due no later than June 1st , and the balance due by September 1st.
The number of birds ordered for the 2019 program will be approximately 2,100 unless there is strong club support additional birds.
Please be sure your members are aware of the overall program details & issues. Your feedback is essential in determining our future plans with pheasants.
